Becoming a Member or Volunteer
Are you considering joining or volunteering with BSUK? Please read this information first.
All members and volunteers must meet the following criteria.
BSUK members must demonstrate the ability to provide a genuine contribution to the objectives and activities of BSUK. This may include:
(i) Both UK and Non UK residents based in the UK, (temporarily or permanently) whose work is relevant to CPP in the UK and its overseas territories;
(ii) Both UK and Non UK residents based outside the UK (temporarily or permanently) whose work is relevant to CPP in the UK and its overseas territories;
(iii) Non UK residents based in the UK (permanently or temporarily) whose knowledge/ experience would be of benefit to BSUK (BSUK would be considered their “local” committee);
(iv) UK residents or UK nationals with knowledge and experience in CPP more broadly (does not need to have expertise in CPP in the UK and its overseas territories if a UK resident or national – BSUK would be considered their “home” committee).
Note: Although all our Members are voluntary, we make a distinction between full Members and "volunteers". Full members have considerable experience in the field and are established in their professional career. We use the term "volunteer" to describe those who do not have sufficient experience to become a full Member. They serve as coordinators to the Expert Working Groups and support the Chair in Working Group Activities.

Volunteering
Thank you for visiting our “Becoming a Member or Volunteer” page - we’re delighted you are considering volunteering with BSUK.
We are a voluntary organisation made up of members who are passionate and committed to cultural property protection. Whilst our members are unpaid volunteers, they are true experts in their field and we are lucky to have their experience, knowledge, support and their valuable time within BSUK. We are also generously supported by a number of organisations who provide representation on BSUK to help us achieve our Mission, and ensure knowledge sharing, efficient communication and partnership.
Volunteers will have privileged access to hear from our members at our BSUK Committee meetings, and in the Working Groups, which is an excellent learning opportunity. However, much of the work of BSUK is sensitive and confidential, and requires an underlying level of knowledge and understanding of Cultural Property Protection. This means we are only able to take volunteers who have some previous relevant experience, are committed to supporting the work of BSUK, can dedicate a regular amount of time on a monthly basis (several hours per week on average), and are willing to volunteer for a one year period.
We regret that due to the nature and sensitivity of our work, and respect for our members’ time, we cannot accept volunteers who are primarily seeking future career opportunities with our members, or to use their experience solely for the purpose of academic credits or publications.
We greatly appreciate you giving up your time, so to ensure that BSUK is the right organisation for you please answer the questions below. Volunteer places are limited and depend on availability.
